  1. Unfortunately I haven't played this game, but if perchance I do This would make an excellent profile picture (Might become a temporary one anyways, the type of temporary picture that becomes permanent) Oh, I had just neglected to post an intro, the story is true, it's just been awhile since it has happened. Not really much of a story behind the name, just something that I came up with when joining the site.
  2. Hello everyone! I've lurked for a while on this forum, and then finally decided to make an account, but I neglected an introduction. Hello all I'm Crypto! I like eating fruit, but all sorts of other salty foods are great too. Sherbet is the best ice cold frozen snack For a while I was spending time on less uplifting forums, and thought to myself I really should find a better place to hangout on the internet. (and immediately this place came to mind) There is a bit less chitchat here, but overall I find myself a little less jaded now that I hang out here, I am glad that this forum exists! Maybe I should invest some time in getting some sort of profile picture, I'm open to suggestions
  3. I like this one :-)
  4. My former stake president (now out on a mission), and a former bishop from my ward are both liberal. They are very faithful people, and I have great respect for both of them.
  5. It's not comforting, but this is a common phase through which most relationships will go through to a lessor or greater degree. Both Husband and Wife will need to work through it, to accept each other for who they are. Most couples develop true love, agá¼€pe, over time, and it takes work. Eros is what attracts them to each other. * My recommendation is similar to LiterateParakeet, find some counsel. Do Not vent to parents, friends, or colleagues about it. (There are always exceptions to this, but don't expect them to be a therapist, and it can cause more trouble) Invest maybe in the languages of love book that is sometimes recommended. Read it together and practice it together. Hey Just like Scriptures right ;D !
  6. Everything? I mean, more time is life is simply more time to do all the things I haven't been able to get around to yet. Unless infinite possibilities sounds boring. People continue to play the same [sport] over and over again and enjoy it. A hobby is essentially people doing things they enjoy repetitively. This idea of eternal boredom baffles me. We won't be sitting on clouds strumming harps in the chilly weather eternally.
  7. I don't know what type of media you've been listening to lately, but this is all a lot of baloney. Stop listening to what they are telling you to think.
  8. Maybe. I personally see it as symbolic language, but it could also be literal.
  9. In agreement with your post mostly. When I say inversion of discrimination, I said that because looking at racism and calling it white privilege is an inversion of the perspective, not the act itself.
  10. The idea behind "White Privilege" is simply an inversion of discrimination, subtly diverting attention from the woes of racism, to the partially alleged benefits, partially privileged benefits of another skin color. The problem is still racism, whether you look through the looking glass of "privilege" or "disadvantage".
  11. OP, Today on the forum/internet in general, I'm seeming to get a great deal of corrections for some of my personal flaws. Not too long ago, I noticed something very similar to what you stated, and said to myself to work on it, but I had forgotten it. For whats it's worth, I appreciate the post.
  12. Did you know that that queuing in a line will likely make bursty traffic (i.e. food servings) slower to get to each recipients plate.
  13. Once a month doesn't sound bad. It'll still get it's own special little filter and folder though, so it doesn't get mixed with all the other email messages.
  14. I'll repeat, I support the police in their own defense. However there are too many instances where innocent lives have been lost because of the cops. I absolutely do not support that. (And doctors get certain levels of immunity from being fired for making mistakes) fyi My stance on Ferguson, a fair Jury saw the evidence and made a decision. They released the evidence and it supports their decision. Riots, theft, and destroying other peoples stuff isn't an acceptable form protest. I'll clarify my opinion with some perspective. I grew up in a town where the cops were called, while there was an active break in at a school. The cops couldn't have been more than 10 minutes away and never showed up. Several witnesses saw a man beat, and then dumped into a trunk. Cops called and never showed up. Later more than half the police force were accused of various crimes, including corruption charges. (I'm not going into any more detail than that, but some of it is pretty bad. Various sentences to the different individuals) New set of cops, and several more have been arrested for various charges. I have a friend with his family who the police followed home, then started up their lights harassed them outside their house (which they got on camera) and starting looking for a ticket-able offense to give them. This is just the stuff I have been privy to. I don't trust cops, Too many instances of them being the same as other criminals. I have personally been harassed, and other members in my ward have also been harassed for doing nothing more than walking home. The sheriff for the county are awesome though. Those guys do their job, and don't antagonize law-abiding people. (I'm not an outlying ethnic group where I am at, so i'm not playing toward race.) No theoretical arguments will change my mind on this, too much experience against it.
  15. I hope they act with prudence with the email sending.
  16. There are numerous instances of cops killing people when a lost life could have been avoided. The issue I have isn't self-defense for the cop. I understand how the law justifies when a cop is legally allowed to shoot. I just wish they reacted a bit more like Germany when it comes to shooting another human being.
  17. All this time i've been thinking of shaken faith as purely intellectual! I can't believe I haven't even thought about it from an emotional point of view ! Quite enlightening.
  18. If that is the case, then I think we are in agreement, and are expressing similar ideas differently.
  19. Umm why do I get the feeling this was targeted at me? Or was it pointing towards a way of losing faith?
  20. Maybe you are right. I don't think they are necessarily mutually exclusive though. Agency and being a victim. In Shakespeare's play Othello, Iago tricks Othello into thinking his wife Desdemona cheated on him. Othello was a victim of Iago's trickery. It didn't justify Othello in murdering his wife. Being deceived doesn't justify Othello's decision to murder his wife, the same way being deceived doesn't justify denying the promptings of the spirit. Not all people have had a chance to exercise agency*, In learning and accepting the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ. It's why temples exist, and the plan of salvation includes more than just time here on earth. It's also why God will judge the hearts of men. Something might also be said about acting under an imperfect knowledge and lesser condemnation. I could be completely wrong about this though.
  21. Food, Family, Good conversation, often a disagreement or two. Maybe a game, or an activity of some sort, depending on the collective whim.
  22. Per Lectures on Faith, Prepared by the Prophet Joseph Smith [with/and/or his fellow contemporaries] Both faith and doubt are choices. But I wouldn't go so far as saying "those who doubt are not victims" The very act of being deceived strikes me as becoming a victim. (and I would guess false prophets would be one potential cause of shaking someone's faith) People believe many things, but just because you believe something doesn't mean it will make a difference in how you act. There are people who believe in the church, with opportunity to progress, but never take part. Faith is more than belief, not only do you believe, but you have trust enough that it rises you to action. (somewhat similar to what you said Folk Prophet) When a preconceived notion of what your faith is based on, what you believe, what is acceptable in the eye of god, turns out to be different that what you expect, faith can be shaken. This depends on how strongly or important the notion seemed to be. It's called in psychology cognitive dissonance. When someone is unable to resolve this dissonance, we sometimes call it shaken faith syndrome. For some people that includes questioning whether or not they were really feeling the spirit. Which is tricky, if not impossible to define intellectually. As the foundation crumbles, things begin to get worse. Which is why it is important to build upon a strong foundation Matthew 7 How can this happen to anyone? It may not happen to everyone, but it seems according to my own interpretation of this scripture, that it could even possibly be a threat to those who are very elect. When I graduated high school, a ward member gave each of the graduates a book. I don't remember now what it was called, but one thing I remember from it is that a testimony is composed of three things. Spiritual (Faith, the Spirit), Intellectual (Knowledge, Logic, Evidence, Understanding), and Experience (seems to describe itself ) Ever seek to strengthen each component. Seek to strengthen your testimony. This is how I personally see it. The spirit is the foundation and the most important I think, without it no one would act in faith, convert to it, and achieve growth. Experience is how we confirm it, learn to recognize it, Doing good works is one way of helping build experience. (It acts as a second witness to the spirit) Intellectual is one way we can learn about it, and defend it. There is just enough evidence to allow one to act in faith, but not with a perfect knowledge. (It acts as a third witness to the spirit)
  23. How about this? Here are some general guides to help you to determine what you should do: Is the activity work? (as in a job of commerce, rather than effort) Does it bring you closer to God? Does it distract from being closer to God? Does it strengthen your relationship with close friends and relatives? Will the activity take time away from family and relatives? Is it good? Is the activity for the good of others? Ask yourself these questions. A single yes or no on any particular question doesn't mean you should or shouldn't do an activity.
  24. I'd only recommend using windows defender exclusively if your computer has windows 8.
  25. Many times the virus definitions (What the anti-virus program uses to detect a computer virus) of the competing anti-malware suites will show up as infected. This is because they contain patterns that also show up in actual malware. Before you install any new anti-virus you should uninstall any other anti-virus program. This will prevent various problems that can occur when multiple anti-virus products are installed along side each other. Such as causing internet access to be inaccessible, literally fighting against each other when malware is detected, etc... (I've seen and have had to deal on multiple occasions with this) Since most anti-virus products look for malware as you use your computer, using multiple products will slow your computer down. Best bet is to uninstall what you won't be using. As for ratings, there are various organizations that assess different aspects of each vendors program, and the result is determined by not only score, but in what they think should be most important. (If you value ease of use the most, you might choose it over another that has superior malware removing abilities etc...) Ratings only tell you what someone else values most. It will be a good skill to learn, that you need to look at what was assessed, to see if you agree. I can point to assessments where bit defender will win. I can also point to assessments where Avira does well. Or even PCmatic. I'll PM you with clean links to several of the products people have suggested. (Of course from a security stand point you probably shouldn't trust me. Simply because you don't know me.)
