Eowyn, I apologize for the sarcasm I injected into the discussion. It was inappropriate.

Sometimes the counselor you "get" (location wise) isn't a perfect fit for you, perhaps a different one would work out better. You are not limited to just the one or having to travel hours away. While not in person, there are LDS Fam. Service Counselors who can meet with you via the internet: Skype, etc. 
 
Also, suppose Skype sessions didn't work for a moment (pretend)...
Is working on/saving your marriage worth driving several hours away? I would hope so. Make a trip of it. See some sights, go on a date with your wife while you are there and go to an extra long session with your new counselor. People drive for sports, camping, events... surely working on your marriage would be a top priority?
 
Finding a counselor you enjoy/trust will be vital to you even caring about what they have to say in the first place. I would never avoid a counselor because they gave you advice you found hard or difficult to swallow. If you (myself included) had all the answers, you wouldn't be at a counselor's office in the first place. You are not looking for someone who simply agrees with you on all points.
 
I'm not taking sides on this subject, you vs. the counselor, just saying there are alternatives.

Hope you are all well, just wanted to let you all know that I have set a date for my Baptism in May,  Its a while off yet as I am having a baby in March.   I am very happy and excited about it and have no doubts that I am doing the right thing.

With the last mega millions $1,600,000,000 jackpot I did not buy a ticket.  Why bother if you have a 1 in 290,000,000 chance of winning?  Most lotteries are a voluntary tax for people who do not understand odds and numbers.

This may be true, but it's an excuse, not a reason. Lotteries are successful because they appeal to a base human instinct, the desire to get a big return on a very small investment. Everyone wants this shortcut to power, success, and happiness. Maybe it's a deep evolutionary trait. But it works against many aspects of human relationships, including marriage and family relations as well as larger society.
 
Education can be accomplished without introducing the gambling aspect. That desire for payoff is every bit as pernicious, addicting, and potentially destructive as an addiction to pornography or drugs. We should not be encouraging such things, even in small ways.

There is more than one way to receive divine revelation from G-d.  It is my personal belief and understanding that visions and dreams are overrated by many within the religious community.  As an engineer and scientist as well as a devout covenant member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I have come to appreciate the symbolism that often accompanies revelation given to individuals.  But beyond the nuts and bolts of what is passed on from prophets and others given visions and dreams is a connection to a spirit of light and intelligence that goes beyond the medium of revelation to the pure knowledge of what is being given.  The Tree of Life is symbolic.
 
I learned a lot about symbolism growing up as the son of an artist but it has taken me a lifetime to understand the difference between symbolism and reality and that symbolism is more powerful than reality.  However, symbolism and reality feed off each other and part of divine insight comes from learning from both symbolism and reality. 
 
For a long time I thought I had appreciated the symbolism in Lehi’s vision of the tree of life – that is until I began to realize the importance that the tree of life has in Arabic culture.  In the center of the capitol of Bahrain (Manama) stands a sacred shrine to the Middle Eastern Tree of Life.   The reason this tree is sacred goes far back in time and precedes Islam and fits more in time and place with Abraham.  It is believed that G-d (Allah) gave 3 great gifts to the Arabic peoples that live in the barren lands of Arabia (of mortality or loan and dreary earth).  The first great gift is water, the second is the Tree of Life and the third is the camel.
 
The Arabic tree of life is a date palm tree but not just any date palm but a unique variety that grows almost exclusively in Western Arabia.  The dates are a pale white (the whiter the better and more valuable the fruit).  This particular date is sweet and the whiter the date the more sweet it is – but the reason this date is so important and valuable is that when the date is ripe it can be stored and eaten for a very long time – even a few months in the extreme heat of Arabia without rotting.  It is the single natural food source for humans that allow travel across the vast deserts of that region.  The only nourishment that get someone back home – it is the source of life (food) for someone living in the deserts of Arabia.
 
I am somewhat skeptical of someone claiming to have experienced Lehi’s dream of the tree of life that is in essence a replication of something out of our place and time.  I do not think the significance of the tree shown to Lehi would have the same symbolic impact to someone in our western modern culture.  I am convinced, that should G-d provide a vision to encompass the same aggregate meaning that it would deploy different symbolism for our place and time.  I tend to think there are some very simple nuggets of truth that we in our day and time cannot see in ancient revelations – I am of a notion that despite the scriptures; I think I understand the teachings but perhaps I do not quite interpret such things to the depth that Lehi understood.  For these reason I am also very skeptical of the religious thinker that pronounces that the scriptures and their understanding of the scriptures are sufficient and completes their mortal struggle to connect to the divine.   They are feeding themselves poppycock to their own demise and flawed purpose.  Covenantal connections to divinely appointed (anointed) living oracles are as essential in our day and time as it was anciently when any scripture we have in our day was created.

Is it possible, yes. Is it something to aspire to? Improving our behavior and praying sincerely is something to work towards, but aspiring to receive a vision I would suggest is not. Some members will have experiences like this for themselves or those under their stewardship. How Heavenly Father decides to communicate between individuals is...well "individual". Perhaps soft promptings of the Spirit are enough to guide a person. On the other hand maybe a vision is required for a different person. I have been a member for decades and have not had what I would equate to a Tree of Life Vision, no do I ever expect one. "IF" it happens, it would be because Heavenly Father wanted it to happen, not because I aspired or expected it to happen. 
 
Also, I would be more inclined to believe that Nephi would have suggested that his brothers could receive their own personal confirmations to the truth. How that confirmation could have taken place could have been varied, but not limited to only a personal vision.

You've married two women now who don't want to have sex with you.  Do you know why?
 
Kind of two parts to my question.  
- Why did you pick them to marry?  
- Why don't they want to have sex with you?
 
Both are important questions to answer.  Because if you don't know, or are in denial or something, then any third try at marriage is just an exercise in landing in the same place yet again.  

Let me see if I can break it down to simple terms. Your greatest fear in marriage is happening. And it was a fear for a real reason--you are hurting, afraid, angry, betrayed, and even confused. You felt that you took all the precautions you could prior to marriage to prevent this from happening, but despite your efforts and confirmation from the Spirit, it still happened.
 
I noticed that you aren't asking what to do regarding your marriage. You are asking what to do on your end--what to learn? how to cope? what to pray for?
 
I have learned that marriage is more difficult that I ever expected. If my assessment of your situation is correct, then I am living that same thing. My greatest fear in marriage has happened and despite my precautions and spiritual confirmation, it still happened. I can't change my spouse. I can only look to myself. 
 
I prayed for patience. I prayed for increased love. I prayed for charity (which is more than just love). I prayed to know what I could do to influence my spouse. I prayed to know how to live today with faith. I prayed to know how to continue with a marriage that is so far from what I wanted and from what God wants. I prayed to know that by choosing to stay in this marriage that I was doing God's will. 
 
I try to focus on the good of my spouse. I try to praise that good. I discuss issues with him but I pray before and even after sometimes to know what to say and how to say it. I try to remember that he is a son of God and no matter how angry I am, how hurt I am, his choices hurt God more than me and yet He still loves him. I try to suppress the feelings I have when I want my spouse to make choices other than what he is making. 
 
Sometimes, I have to rely on the answer I got when I prayed about my marriage. I received 2 very distinct answers to my prayers about my marriage. There are times when I'm in the midst of my pain and anger that I remember those answers and tell myself to endure. I know that I can't prevent the choices my husband makes and someday those choices may result in the dissolution of our marriage. But, I refuse to focus on those "what ifs." 
 
I'm sorry this is happening to you. I'm sorry that such a great disappoint has happened despite your efforts to prevent it. One thing I can say is do not, DO NOT, let them influence you to choose to leave your faith behind. While you may not be at your spiritual high, abandoning your faith altogether WILL result in more sorrow and misery. Sometimes, we have to wade through the mud and muck before we get to higher ground. And it can get very muddy and mucky before we can even tell that there is higher ground. That is when faith is needed. Keep the faith.

"Fetching home [money]" is not the same thing as improving your family economy. As I said, every Job has its costs. Just because someone has a net take home pay does not mean it is profitable, and it does not mean that it is a good use of time. If anyone wants to work for the pleasure of the job and the company or any other reason, that's not part of this discussion. These may be good, valid reasons, but they are not economic reasons. They are or could be enough to tip the scales and it's up to the people involved to decide that. But they are not economic reasons.
In my experience, the majority of men who encourage their wives to work outside the home do not count the economics highly enough. Nor do they weigh the costs (both economic and otherwise) of having a tired, dual-allegiance wife, and children who are being raised by strangers. But it is their decision. My only purpose is to make people aware of those costs.
Let's take just the tax cost. If a second income of $12,000 changes a tax bill from $6,300 to $9,000, the entire $2,700 comes off of the second income. That's because the additional income is why the higher tax burden exists. But that's not all: the second car has its own taxes. The sales tax on new clothes, on meals at Jimbo's: they're all coming out of that second income. A second income can easily eat itself half up just in new and additional taxes.
Finally, totally outside the monetary costs, If you work 20 hrs/wk, you might be away from home more than 30. That's 1,500/hrs year. The question is, after all the wholly economic costs are subtracted from that additional income, and, for convenience we assume you are working for $20,000, are you worth more than $1.50/hr. I'd guess you are. And what do you get for that $2,000? What does the spouse get? I know I'd have a tired, grouchy, wearied wife, and it jess ain't worth it.

Mine is the construction of a full scale suit of Imperial Space Marine (Black Templars chapter) power armor from Warhammer 40,000 that I will wear to conventions.  I'm about 1/4 of the way through the project and took a break in December.
