  1. Back in high school civics class we had a debate on pro versus con arranged marriages. Teacher assigned the groups. It turned out I was ...on the pro arranged marriages side...after all was said and done it was agreed on by the class that the pro arranged marriage won the debate by a landslide, though everyone cringed for some reason.
  2. Loopholes! Personally I like the Luny kind, but maybe i'm just a bit Loopy! =D
  3. I think this topic also misses incidental homosexual experience and homosexual attraction. Something that comes up in the Kinsey scale. (whether or not such a scale is valid) Also as for the 'eww gross' idea, I don't think it applies at all...regardless of guy or girl or the gender pairing. A socialized behavior doesn't make a situation any better... It is wise to avoid the temptation of sin.
  4. I have family that purposefully go out of their way and send me stuff that is the complete opposite of what I believe. It's a bit misguided, but they mean well enough.
  5. This is very relevant, because the intelligence community projected Iran would have nuclear capabilities about now. It's especially concerning to Israel, considering how many of their neighbors don't like them.
  6. Just to follow up with this, there was a 2011 CDC report release that created a new category of sexual abuse called "forced to penetrate" The numbers of men who were "forced to penetrate" nearly equaled that of women "raped" within a 12 month period observed. Approximately 50% of the abusers of men were women. There are other fairly recent statistical reports and studies that are now following through with this and finding the difference to be less than is commonly thought, often due to inherent bias, definitions, under reporting, societal expectations, reports that are ignored etc... Based on this I don't believe this is a men only do it kind of problem, it's worse than most might think for both genders. It's very disheartening.
  7. At this late point in the thread I have found an issue that I might respond to....Is it mental illness, are you born that way, etc... But I have a feeling that all roads down that path lead to P.S. I really want to post on this, but think it might not be appropriate, understood correctly, and straw manned etc....
  8. I'm not quite sure when you say "that idea must be true" when you use the word "that", that you are referencing to the quote, science fails to scratch idea, or both. It is an intriguing idea. :)
  9. The great thing about blackholes is the amount of observation evidence that simply doesn't exist...I wonder why that is
  10. I probably haven't had " a sincerely held belief, or strong opinion" changed from being on this site, but then again most of the posters on this site also have similar theological beliefs as me, thus similarity in many ideas. Even if there is still some disagreement about various things. I have had small nuances changed, or things to consider. Sometimes things I haven't considered myself. Yes, some posters do have a stronger impact on me, i'll keep who to myself though. I agree that disagreeing without being disagreeable is a skill that does develop here, on occasion. I will note, that despite some people not liking the level of disagreement that does take place, I find that this site feels: #1 much less venomous with disagreement more so than other places i've been #2 much more respectful (generally) #3 much more open minded (even if the open mindedness doesn't mean opinions will change) and #4 often fairly logical with construction of opinions (even with disagreements of the premise) Should note that #5 Somewhat judgmental with lines draw by certain individuals (which isn't necessarily bad so long as it is also respectful)
  11. I saw this article posted on facebook, I got a completely different view and feel from what was presented there. I REALLY like your take on this. Also of interest is Gods ways are higher than our ways. I bet he knew about the color blue ;D Not because we couldn't see it, but maybe not notice it, didn't have the language to describe it, the thoughts for it. Oh, as a side note, i've done color matching tests, and normally get 90%+ on them...but didn't on that green image circle, but when comparing the colors singly in a neutral background could tell the difference. Interesting to note.
  12. I camp in solitude. (or small group) I like it that way. Cool idea though. Does the site include worldwide campsites?
  13. First thing is first... What would you and others consider fully developed, or do you think something more similar to always developing and changing?
  14. The feels from that image.
  15. For a trick in seeing the image differently, use your hands to cover up a good section of the image, especially the surrounding, look away close one eye and look back. Focus on seeing the blueish tinge in the fabric. Once you get a section blue/black slowly expand what you covered up until completely uncovered. The idea is to help change how you perceive the context around the dress.
  16. There is a good saying to help people with this! "If you don't know who the crazy one in your family is...it's probably you" Uhoh...
  17. I now get to see your avatar that someone awhile ago mentioned you using.
  18. I have a threshold of suspension of disbelief, that is dependent on the media. Falling off a cliff and surviving breaks the suspension of disbelief, but in a cartoon not so much. This is how I approach most films, interstellar mostly passes, not because of solid science, but that it is reasonable within the fantasy universe that it creates. (However, Strong gravity tidal forces should rip things apart, or fingers "touching" a wormhole.) The resolution towards the end was unbelievable, I don't think he'd go searching for the woman that hated his guts, nor leave his daughter to die alone.
  19. I'm not saying it makes sense, or if it is good or bad, I'm saying this was a reason put forth by an ISP in a subtle battle with google fiber. (While also involves net neutrality)
  20. Many ISP's are actually purposefully not updating their infrastructure (or only doing it slowly), and limiting internet speeds. Besides costs, profit margins, many ISP's and Telecomms are also broadcasting and entertainment industry. Faster internet means greater ease to pirate. (Just though I should mention one piece to this issue)
  21. Hmm... physically children as young as 8 to 16 are generally physically mature enough to have children (depending on gender and person), yet modern society generally (in the U.S.) doesn't see that as an acceptable age. Mentally 20 to 25 is where brain development based on grey/white matter changes, more or less stabilizes. In which case 18 is still a little bit too young. (Depending on State, and parental consent, with a general trend so far towards older ages, In Europe and other places in the world this is different) I think if I were to arbitrarily draw a line it would be: #1 Age of maturity based on biology (a.k.a. can have children) #2 The ability to take care of self #3 The ability to take care of self and others #4 The emotional an mental maturity to work together and bond, with others I think the choking point in when marriage happens and works well is #2 and #3...though in a pessimistic outlook some people as they get older.... they unlearn #4.
  22. The friends of scouting is specific to each ward and the council they reside in. So I don't know if anyone here could really say. I can say that every dollar counts considering that scouting is generally tight on funds. Like many nonprofits and charitable organizations every dollar counts.
  23. I and a whole lot of other people sure hope so! :)
  24. I wonder if the new name will be in a perfect language that conveys the entire essence of a thing perfectly. Which would remind us of things pertaining to godliness, and something that may not be understood quite right without striving towards celestial. I wonder if it uses encryption, and the new name is like a cryptographic key?
  25. Riding away into the sunset works too.
