  1. For what it's worth, these assignments are hard ones for the Apostles to handle. Imagine being tasked with making decisions that affect other individuals and families throughout the eternities. It is a wonderful thing to exercise the sealing power to bind on earth and bind in heaven...and an awful one to be the one to loose on earth and loose in heaven.

  3. That word "sufficiently" caught my attention too. Clearly the Lord does not expect perfection from us before we can access the atonement so there must be some level of humility and repentance required before He grants his grace so perhaps that is what Alma is referring to. But like you said, that statement on pride seems to imply that still ultimately is not good enough. Perhaps it's a progressive thing, step one and then step two.

Cats are absolutely glorious, a credit to the human cause. Who knows what shenanigans they get up to unsupervised at night. Some things are better not knowing.

    Powerlessness

Small man syndrome is a very real thing. Overcompensation is very addictive by the looks of it. I think there is a lot to be said from the OP. Desperate measures for desperate times and all that.

    WWIII

This thought has been spiking my WWIII needle since the middle of Covid-19, when assessing the financial ruin that little stunt caused. I recall even saying to a colleague of mine that I wouldn't be surprised if WWIII was round the corner as its a great boom for the economy ( or so I've been told my whole life ). After a while I settled back into normal life but then Mr Putin, well... He couldn't help himself. Interesting times indeed, but war or no war, Russia has shown its self to be the feeble little man behind the curtain. Which is in stark contrast to the decades of flexing that has been going on. Here's hoping sense and faith prevail.

An outline of some of what is true and what is embellished/made up in the movie on the O.U.R. website. Interestingly (to me), it points out that this is not the most common form of human trafficking. https://ourrescue.org/blog/sound-of-freedom-based-on-true-story

    Powerlessness

Powerlessness is what causes people to want to overcompensate. A kid was bullied, so he grows up wanting enough power and control to be able to bully others back again (as opposed to simply wanting to be strong enough to defend himself). A guy is internally very self-conscious and unsure of himself - he feels powerless. So, he over-compensates by doing things that (he believes) will make others believe he's really got it all together. So, he will use unethical means of obtaining money, women, power, fancy gadgets... What is more powerless than feeling like you can't even control yourself? Habits, addictions... To seize power, we lie to ourselves and say that this addiction is what we really want. For being either powerful or powerless, the corruption that comes with it is not universal. We all know that. But when people become corrupt, the corruption doesn't come from a vacuum. The light of Christ that is given to all men from birth is pushed out of our hearts by certain mechanisms. For many, the two biggest variables come from having too much or too little control over our lives (and ourselves) as we are children.

  18. @SteelerFan First – welcome to the form – glad you are here. Thanks for the topic. I read through most of this thread and I think that perhaps I have a very different perspective. I believe that regardless of circumstances that it is foolish to assume that any happiness or joy can be achieved in waiting for someone or something else to change. I believe that if anyone has come to the conclusion that something ought to change to make anything better – the only logical possibility is that any change must begin with oneself. The logic here is that changing oneself is the only possible change anyone can make or act upon expect or demand. If one is not willing to change themselves or cannot conceive and any possible change they can make – it is foolish to think or hope that any change will ever occur. The Traveler

    3. If the e-mails and whatnot allegedly recovered from that laptop are anything to go by, Hunter Biden is so entrenched in Ukraine - what with Burisma and all - that someone, somewhere, is not happy with how long it took Biden to act and is compelling him to be more aggressive.

Dare I say this? But before I do I realize that agency is the prime directive of G-d. I just find it odd that it is socially unacceptable in certain circles to have a black woman on a syrup bottle but perfectly acceptable in the same circles to put a fake woman on a beer can. The Traveler

The same "reputable" media outlets that are playing this movie off as propaganda are the same media outlets who praised the film cuties. Adoption of, and encouragement by the media, for pedophilia is right around the corner folks, and films like this are a threat to their filthy desires.

  24. Often, I hear liberals finally admitting that some bad stuff is going on, but "it isn't frequent enough to get upset about." I'm hoping that such a sentiment comes from the very real fact that bad stuff happens all the time, and there's no way we can stop it all. This is a perfectly reasonable position. But what has been happening lately is different. Something horrific happens, but because of ideology, people are actively trying to allow perpetrators to get away with it. We know that sometimes, we can't find a perp. Sometimes, we find them, but there isn't evidence. I get it. That sort of thing happens. We don't like it. But we know it is a reality that sometimes hits us. And, yes, we often feel powerless to do something about it. So, we move on. But that is quite different from actively trying to allow a perp to get away with it. Case In Point: https://www.dailywire.com/news/school-district-pays-600k-to-settle-sexual-harassment-lawsuit-after-scotus-declines-to-hear-argument-that-could-give-schools-one-free-rape A girl in a public school was raped by a boy from the school. She reported it to the school. They mocked her for saying so. They summarily decided that it must have been consensual. And they refused to do any investigation. Their defense in court was "how could we have prevented it?" This resonated with the jury. But the question before the court wasn't about prevention. It was about investigating afterwards. It was about holding someone accountable. The appeals went all the way to the Supreme Court and the school district paid a penalty. Even worse is the following: https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/08/us/virginia-school-superintendent-fired-report-sexual-assaults/index.html https://www.dailywire.com/news/loudoun-schools-honchos-in-perjury-trial-testify-they-cant-remember-almost-anything-about-rape-scandal The reason why this was worse was that the school didn't just ignore it. They actively tried to cover it up because the perpetrator was pretending to be a girl. Because he was "trans" he was given a free pass. He could rape any girl in the school and the faculty would do everything to cover it up, including arresting the girl's father for opposing the transgender policy of allowing boys into girls' bathrooms at the school. YES: By opposing the policy in an open forum, he was arrested for holding "an unlawful assembly." But, hey, there's nothing we can do about that. Right? Thankfully, this had a good conclusion for both cases. But the presence of perverts and rapists is an unfortunate reality which none of us want's to affect anyone. Much worse is when otherwise law-abiding citizens do everything they can to cover it up.

    Not of this world

From Facebook, but despite that, I thought it was good enough to share here. “Do you know how whales die? They drown. They spend their whole life living in and swimming in a world that eventually kills them. “Do you know why that is? Whales are mammals. Most mammals walk on the face of the earth, but the whale lives in a world that they are not of. “They are in the water, but they are not of the water. So while fish can swim around for their entire lives with gills, breathing in the water, the whale most come up out of the water to live. There is a life source that is not in the world that he lives in that he needs access to. “You are in this world but you are not of this world. You are not just a mind. You are not just a body. You are a spirit wrapped up in a man or a woman. And in this life you need God—you need to pray, you need to worship, you need to read the word of God. “Because if you don’t learn to come up for air, you will drown.” - @russelldafourth

  28. Years ago, shortly into my career as a teacher, I made a decision to not tie kids' shoelaces. Why? Someone mentioned loose laces in the bathroom and I have since been permanently disgusted. Today, one of my wigglier CTR 5-year-olds inexplicably untied his shoes to show his friend, started licking the shoelaces, and then asked me to tie them. This was all during the scripture and talk in sharing tie them. My refusal to tie shoes came into play, especially with the licking. Finally, one of the presidency comes over to tie his shoes. I don't know if she noticed me refusing. I also did not inform her of the shoelace licking. No one said anything to me or even looked at me like I failed, but I kind of feel like a heel. Yet I stand by this kid gross shoelace boundary.
