Does anyone have a calling that secretly appeals to you and that you would say yes to without having to ponder?

Faith crisis councilor. (yes, totally made up, but SO needed!) It would be great if there were a person specifically dedicated to offering help and support to those struggling. Someone who's "been there", and can offer more than the usual pat answers of "just pray" or "study your scriptures". I know Bishops can sort of offer this kind of assistance, but in areas where they're swamped, it'd be great to be able to delegate. It wouldn't require Priesthood authority (you wouldn't be sitting in any sort of Judgement position over the person, just offering support), so it could be done by anyone.

I think this sounds like such an awesome idea.  The only concern about a calling like this would be that if a person goes to the Bishop that conversation is to be kept private and confidential.  Of course there would have to be permissions given.

Ya, it would certainly have to be understood upfront that the calling would require the ability to keep things confidential, and pass things up the line if they got beyond the scope of the calling. I remember during my time as a YW's leader there were plenty of times when the yw confided very personal things, usually just the usual teenage struggles, but sometimes things where I'd have to say "You know, this is probably something you should be taking to the Bishop."

The other thing is, what if this person told you things that only the Bishop should be aware of?  Such as confessing sins etc. Even if you told them to take it to the Bishop it doesn't mean they will.  Would the person in this calling then need to report this to the Bishop?  

 

In many ways, I see that people could use this as bypassing the Bishop.  Especially if they are concerned about disciplinary action.

Stake IT specialist, or ward/stake clerk.

 

As I'm not musical, and very much dislike teaching and regular talking at the pulpit (despite having done it many times before), this pretty much rules out wanting 95% of other callings.

 

I'd prefer IT specialist because I feel that's one area that I could make a real difference having seen the condition of some of the church IT setups, but I'd be happy performing the role of clerk too.

 

I've never been called to either in my current ward/stake, maybe that will change once I move to the US next month.

My secret calling is to be a Nursery Leader with my wife again...oh wait that one is not a secret, I volunteer for it every Sunday during Bishopric meeting, but the Bishop tells me I'm not going any where for a while.

I like my calling, but I wouldn't mind being released and asked to attend the EQ again. Alas, it will not happen. I was in a Bishopric a few years back and at age 34 High priests doesn't feel like I belong. Most of those guys could be my father. Don't get me wrong they are great guys, I just want to be around some people my age. I crash EQ activities all the time though!

 

Luckily I guess, I am with the Priests which makes it so I do not attend High Priests at this time anyway.

One of my great loves is cycling.  I have a daily route through the valley.  Part of my riding takes me along a favorite path – on Strava I am ranked on this segment at 74^th which is very good for an old man riding alone without a draft line (BTW I passed a Corvet the other day - my dream is to get a speeding ticket).   On another segment I am ranked 1,871 on a hill listed in Strave as #&$*@ hill (also known as the Beast).  Sometimes callings are like segments on my daily ride.  There are a lot of people better than me at things that I seem to get callings for – and often with the one thing I really shine well at – I hardly ever get such a calling.  I am convinced that callings are not about making me look good in service.

4-ish) Elders Quorum president.  At least right now, if they were to ask me to be EQP, I'd jump up and say, "It's about time!"  If they asked me to be a counselor in the current presidency, I'd decline.  You can do the math.

 

One position I'd love to take but would refuse to take as a calling would be scoutmaster.  And I'd only do it on the condition that I could run a proper troop.  I don't see that happening any time soon.

Relief Society teacher has been my all-time favorite calling.  I've had that calling about 5 different times and I would love to be called to that again.

 

My secret wish?  I would love to be the wife of a Mission President.  I don't see that happening.

 

Hubby and I have had a major financial setback, and the only positive I can see from it, is it frees us to serve a full time mission in a couple of years.  I've been so stressed and anxious about our finances, but the thought of serving a mission brightens my life.

I've been teaching 11 year olds, in two different wards, for four of the last five years; and 7-8 year olds for about three years before that.  I think it would be fun to teach teenagers (either YM or mixed), just to shake things up a bit.

 

Calling I dread?  Scoutmaster.  Our ward combines the 11-y-o-boys' primary teacher and 11-year-old scout leader into the same person, so I do that and it's fun; but I don't have the time or (with my current waistline) physical ability to do anything like what our current 12-18 year olds get up to.  Klondike Derby?  Sleeping in snow caves?  Err . . . not if I don't have to, thanks.
