Bini Posted March 7, 2017 Report Posted March 7, 2017 Get Out. I wanted to love this so badly, and I guess I set myself up by reading all the hyped reviews, but it was too predictable that it fell short ultimately. That said, the cast did a well-rounded job and the plot is smooth enough. Unfortunately, it just dropped too many hints from the get-go that a critiquing mind is easily able to piece everything together long before the ending scene, which is a shame. Quote

prisonchaplain Posted March 7, 2017 Report Posted March 7, 2017 I saw The Shack. It's a rather controversial film, but does a great job of depicting the relationship and interaction between Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as God's love and wooing of wounded souls--especially those who have experienced great tragedy. This was really good though. I enjoyed it very much, from the depictions of the society and how it was run to the social commentary it was making. So often it feels like human emotions are demonized in our culture, so it is nice to see depictions where the good and the bad are necessary and that if we didn't have them, we'd recognize when they were missing. I also liked this better than other "emotionless" dystopic societies I've seen depicted(Equilibrium, Equals) because it felt a bit more real to me the way the people acted and how it was thwarted. Loved that book. Great description of it. Haven't seen the movie though. Quote

I love kaiju movies with leading male and female characters that don't get romantic. Like Pacific Rim. PSA: Wait for the after credits scene. It places the movie in a Trilogy. Ironhold Posted March 18, 2017 Report Posted March 18, 2017 Disney's live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Rather underwhelmed, actually. Quote
dahlia Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 Madoff, the miniseries with Richard Dreyfus and Blythe Danner. It was fascinating from the criminal aspect as well as looking into this guy's psyche. What a terrible person (which is saying a lot, for me). Quote
Ironhold Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 The "Power Rangers" remake. Let's just say that it's not exactly kid-friendly. Quote

Another PSA: There's an after credit scene that got my kids excited... ties the movie to the TV series - my 24-year-old nephew's Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and my kids' Dino Thunder! They're now wanting to see what they do with the character in the movie's sequel. Quote
anatess2 Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 Life. Loved it and hated it. I don't like movies where I invest 2 hours in a movie where they're trying to solve a problem and the problem in the beginning is the same as the problem in the end. Quote
Traveler Posted March 30, 2017 Report Posted March 30, 2017 Fantastic Beasts and Where to find them. (Spoiler alert?????) I saw this movie on a flight but even with almost nothing else to do, it was a rambling, plotless mind numbing, pointless waste of time. I keep thinking there would be some resolution to something that would make sense – but alas there was none – not even a love story and the precursor hints to anything meaningful are all dead ends that beg the question – “really?” The Traveler Quote

But I did hear the music. And at least the music in Moana was several orders of magnitude better. Quote
