NeuroTypical Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 Oh wow - just watched the bootleg video. This was a targeted assault on our sacrament meeting by an activist critic. This is like the people who sneak in to General Conference to yell "opposed", except she invaded our fast/testimony meeting, hiding under the guise of "I'm just a visitor", to yell about rape and pedophilia to a captive audience that includes our children. Everyone go make sure your bishoprics know they're supposed to cut the microphone when something like this happens. mordorbund, Anddenex, Jane_Doe and 4 others 7 Quote
Guest MormonGator Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 I feel sorry for anyone who thinks their voice isn't being heard, but interrupting a sacrament meeting is not the way to accomplish your goals. Quote

Yes! I wish her bishopric would have simply cut the mic. On her Facebook page (no, I"m not friends with her, the post is public), people are applauding her and criticizing the leaders for getting "in her space." I wish they would have cut the mic rather than trying to physically remove her. Still, bottom line she was wrong to do that. Quote
Fether Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 McKenna Denson, Sam Young, Jeremy Runnels... it’s ironic that the current biggest sources of anti-Latter-day Saint movements are coming from members (or in Jeremy’s case an ex-member) that claim they love the church. mirkwood 1 Quote

"Call the police," "I am the police." I've had these conversations with my leaders. All they have to do is give me the nod and I will switch roles from congregant to officer. You can tell at the end of the video, as they're escorting her away and she's griping about assault - her words come through clearly even though she's away from the podium mike. Just_A_Guy Posted September 4, 2018 Author Report Posted September 4, 2018 I’m of several minds on this. First, in one regard . . . assuming that Bishop really *raped* her . . . there’s a part of me that says “you go, girl!”. Because it’s an execrable act, and perpetrators do deserve to be exposed and shamed. Second, I wish it had happened in a forum/venue where children were not present. Third, the sticky point is that no one but Denson and Bishop know whether there was in fact a rape; and I’m not really big on people being publicly shamed with unsubstantiated accusations. Fourth . . . Videoing the whole thing and passing it to the media? Jerk move, sweetums. Jerk move. mikbone, Midwest LDS, mirkwood and 3 others 6 Quote

Making them lose credibility? I *think* her civil case against Bishop was recently dismissed in its entirety, leaving only one of her claims against the Church for further adjudication. I believe that criminally, her case is also outside the statute of limitations; but I could be wrong on that. What I’d pay good money to see (maybe as much as twenty-five whole cents), would be some congregation member turn around and sue Denson for intentional infliction of emotional distress based on her newest outburst. Maybe a class-action, with the ward primary president as lead plaintiff? :Satan: zil and Anddenex 2 Quote
JohnsonJones Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 (edited) I think the events if true are VERY unfortunate. From what I understand the case was dismissed NOT due to lack of evidence or innocent parties but merely due to statute of limitations. If what occurred happened, I think the church legally WOULD be in the wrong on this. One SHOULD NOT prosecute those who have been wronged or have been harassed by a leader in a position of power. Period. They should also apologize and not cover these things up. THAT SAID. What she did was inappropriate. That was NOT the proper course of action. It was NOT the proper place for discourse. F&T meeting is a place for testimonies and faith, NOT a place to discharge your problems with the church or disagreements with others. This brings in a spirit that is the exact OPPOSITE of what that meeting is intended. What is also concerning (and I shut off the videos when I saw who had recorded it) is that these recordings are made by an avowed enemy of the LDS church and one who has sought it's destruction. This is a rather popular anti-Mormon (no idea if they are still a member or not, but they DO attend the LDS church and have made what I would consider illegal videos of holy places. Luckily the LDS church does not seem to be OVERLY aggressive towards the individual on these matters). If this individual is allies with this lady, though she may feel support, I feel it drastically weakens her cause and makes it appear that she is NOT in it to show the truth or to try to do good. Instead, if she is allied with this individual it is more than likely a cause that is malicious towards the LDS church and antagonistic rather than seeking true repair and healing. That this individual KNEW she was going to be there and took video (at least it appears that way, and appears that they conspired together to do so, I stopped watching after a few seconds of the video) actually WEAKENS her case (If I were her Lawyer I would probably be mortified at her actions at this point. If there is still an ongoing case against the LDS church, this is absolutely the wrong way for her to go about acting). The video and what appears may be conspiracy in regards to her talking in that church is (in my opinion) NOT going to help her case and probably weakens it a GREAT deal. I'd be fuming if I were her lawyer. Edited September 4, 2018 by JohnsonJones Just_A_Guy, Jane_Doe, Anddenex and 2 others 5 Quote
Guest LiterateParakeet Posted September 4, 2018 Report Posted September 4, 2018 I just watched the video. Kudos to the bishopric. Now that I've seen it, I think they handled a horrible situation very well. McKenna on the other hand...I'm appalled by her behavior. I was sympathetic to her at the very beginning, but her behavior since then was gradually eroding that support. This cuts the ties completely. She has less than zero support from me. Quote
